Ukraine disputes Musk's claim that its military broke Starlink's terms
Musk wrote on X on Saturday that Ukraine's military "violated Starlink terms of service" by using it for offensive drone strikes and that "that loophole was closed last week," the BBC reported. Serhii Beskrestnov, a defense technology adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said existing restrictions made such use "physically impossible," CNBC and AP reported.
Beskrestnov said drones using civilian Starlink in Ukraine have had a speed cap of 70 to 90 km/h and that the service does not work over Russia. Ukrainian officials said speed caps on Starlink and SpaceX's military-focused Starshield service were lifted Saturday after disruptions they said hampered air defenses.
Why it matters: Ukraine relies on SpaceX satellite links for wartime communications, and the dispute raises questions about who decides its access.
