Uganda orders 21-day quarantine for citizens returning from Congo
Uganda says it has no active Ebola infections after declaring its last outbreak over in July, but two people who later tested positive in Kenya and Nigeria had passed through the country, Reuters and AP reported. Screening has been stepped up at Entebbe International Airport and land borders, and all incoming travelers must fill in a passenger locator form.
Swiss authorities have said the woman diagnosed in Nigeria was infected in Uganda. Baryomunsi disputed that, saying relatives who had visited Congo met her in Kampala, and said "we should speak science, not politics," according to Reuters and Al Jazeera. He said all 60 contacts linked to Kenya's case had completed 21-day monitoring.
Why it matters: Congo's outbreak is the largest ever recorded in the country, with 4,687 deaths as of Oct. 20, according to World Health Organization figures cited by Bloomberg.
